Artist's Description

The idea for Jen's Jungle came from a year of mind numbing boredom working as a paraprofessional in a high school. It was a struggle to stay awake most days. (forgive my honesty, It was a job and a paycheck I was happy to have and met terrific students and colleagues, but my creative mind was in a coma.) So the only thing that I found artistically interesting was the beautiful plants on the teacher's desks. Jen, the science teacher had a veritable jungle. I pretended I was at a lake or pond for an escape. Almost every classroom had a plant. I started drawing them...and then painting them at the studio. I now have quite a series. So, even in the lowest of times, the sun can shine.

About Debra Bretton Robinson

Debra Bretton Robinson

Debra Bretton Robinson grew up in Plaistow, NH and received her degree from the Mass College of Art in Boston. She and her family reside in MA. Debra is now a participant in the vibrant Lowell, MA art scene. Her acrylic paintings on canvas concentrate on the natural landscapes and architecture of New England in vibrating colors. Most of her work is done "en plein air" or on site, outdoors. Frequently her scenes are painted while on her “floating studio”, her husband’s boat, while he fishes. Her style borders between representational and abstract. The colors and lines of her paintings are inspired by Matisse during the Fauvist movement. The talents of several other artists she continues to draw upon are: William Henry...
